Artist's Statement Photographs are stories of all existence, within a timeframe surrounded by the political, social, and traditional aspects of human culture and diversity. No matter what is photographed, the photographer and the viewer can share that experience time and time again... for as long as the negative exists on this earth and the humans that live here have a way to appreciate it.
Photography for me is a gateway to who I am as an individual. I take pictures in a way in which I, myself see the world. By looking at my photos, you as a viewer will see through my eyes what I have seen. How the camera captures the moment is my interpretation of that moment for me in that time and space. As you gaze upon my images, remember that I will someday not exist, however the tools given to me will capture the essence of my surroundings, and that it will be proof that I was once here. Equipment All of the photos shown on this site are shot with film (either negative or transparency) or black & white. Most, but not all of the black & white images were first hand printed in my darkroom and scanned digitally. The majority of the color negatives and slides were scanned in an Imacon film scanner. I typically shoot with a Canon Eos 1 with various lenses, but occasionally I use the Olympus D-2 half-frame and a Canon FTb for 35mm shots. For my medium format, I shoot with a Rolleiflex TLR 75mm f3.5, a 1910 Kodak brownie, or the occasional Hasselblad 503CW. I also shoot 4X5 with a Speed Graflex, and a Calumet Cambo, with a 90mm f8 Schneider, a 210mm f5.6 Rodenstock, or a 127mm f4.7 Kodak Ektar. |
